TRUST ARCHITECTURE

Trusted intelligence requires governed foundations.

PetroleumOS is being designed around a simple principle: intelligence is only as useful as the evidence, provenance, controls and accountability behind it. Governance is therefore part of the platform architecture, not an afterthought.

01 / GOVERNANCE MODEL

Confidence must be earned record by record.

A petroleum intelligence platform should distinguish between a raw signal, a verified record, an assessed case and an analytical inference. Treating those as equivalent creates risk.

PetroleumOS is intended to retain the chain between source and conclusion. A user should be able to understand what is known, what has been checked, what remains uncertain and what interpretation has been added.

Canonical does not mean unquestionable.

A canonical record is the controlled current reference for an entity or relationship. It still needs provenance, version history and a process for correction when better evidence becomes available.

02 / CORE CONTROLS

The trust layer beneath the intelligence layer.

These controls define how PetroleumOS should handle records before they become intelligence.

01

Source Provenance

Preserve where information came from, when it was obtained and under what context.

02

Verification History

Track what was checked, by whom, when and what evidence supported the result.

03

Controlled Access

Apply role, purpose and sensitivity boundaries to information that should not be universally visible.

04

Evidence Integrity

Protect important supporting material against silent alteration and preserve a defensible audit trail.

Additional design requirements

05Data minimisation

Collect what is necessary for a defined purpose rather than everything that can be collected.

06Confidence status

Separate verified, unverified, disputed, stale and inferred information.

07Human oversight

Use automation to assist analysis without removing accountability for consequential decisions.

08Change history

Retain meaningful revisions so current intelligence can be understood in historical context.

03 / INFORMATION CLASSES

Not all petroleum information should be treated the same.

Governance becomes practical when information is classified by purpose and sensitivity before access is granted or intelligence is produced.

PUBLIC

Open industry information

Published records, public resources and information that can lawfully be surfaced for general industry understanding.

VERIFIED

Controlled verification records

Evidence-backed results with defined verification dates, scope and confidence status.

COMMERCIAL

Private operational information

Business records or relationships provided for a defined service and restricted to authorised use.

SENSITIVE

Confidential evidence and cases

Reporting, investigative or evidentiary material that requires strict separation, minimisation and access controls.

04 / BOUNDARIES

What PetroleumOS should not become.

Trust also depends on clear boundaries. PetroleumOS is an intelligence infrastructure layer; it should not create authority it does not have.

Not a petroleum regulatorNot a law-enforcement bodyNot a public allegations registerNot an uncontrolled data broker Not a substitute for legal adviceNot a substitute for laboratory evidenceNot an automated guilt engineNot a source-blind scoring system
