Source Provenance
Preserve where information came from, when it was obtained and under what context.
TRUST ARCHITECTURE
PetroleumOS is being designed around a simple principle: intelligence is only as useful as the evidence, provenance, controls and accountability behind it. Governance is therefore part of the platform architecture, not an afterthought.
01 / GOVERNANCE MODEL
A petroleum intelligence platform should distinguish between a raw signal, a verified record, an assessed case and an analytical inference. Treating those as equivalent creates risk.
PetroleumOS is intended to retain the chain between source and conclusion. A user should be able to understand what is known, what has been checked, what remains uncertain and what interpretation has been added.
A canonical record is the controlled current reference for an entity or relationship. It still needs provenance, version history and a process for correction when better evidence becomes available.
02 / CORE CONTROLS
These controls define how PetroleumOS should handle records before they become intelligence.
Preserve where information came from, when it was obtained and under what context.
Track what was checked, by whom, when and what evidence supported the result.
Apply role, purpose and sensitivity boundaries to information that should not be universally visible.
Protect important supporting material against silent alteration and preserve a defensible audit trail.
Collect what is necessary for a defined purpose rather than everything that can be collected.
Separate verified, unverified, disputed, stale and inferred information.
Use automation to assist analysis without removing accountability for consequential decisions.
Retain meaningful revisions so current intelligence can be understood in historical context.
03 / INFORMATION CLASSES
Governance becomes practical when information is classified by purpose and sensitivity before access is granted or intelligence is produced.
Published records, public resources and information that can lawfully be surfaced for general industry understanding.
Evidence-backed results with defined verification dates, scope and confidence status.
Business records or relationships provided for a defined service and restricted to authorised use.
Reporting, investigative or evidentiary material that requires strict separation, minimisation and access controls.
04 / BOUNDARIES
Trust also depends on clear boundaries. PetroleumOS is an intelligence infrastructure layer; it should not create authority it does not have.
